The rivers in the Gloucester region come under the Peel District and are classed as general trout streams. Mullet, catfish, eels and herring start arriving in our local rivers towards the end of November (usually). The eels and catfish are in our rivers year round, however usually do not bite during the cooler months.
Bass can be found at the following rivers; Barrington, Gloucester and Barnard. Good baits include crickets, earthworms, surface lures and spinner baits.
While the official opening of bass season is the 1st of September, seasonal variations in the weather may affect their availability. Local fishing folklore tells us that when the dollar birds are singing that’s when the fish will be biting.
Purchase your fishing license from the Gloucester Visitor Information Centre, 27 Denison Street, Gloucester. Talk to one of our helpful volunteers 02 6538 5252.
